At BCC we believe it’s important to take our ministry out into the community and not keep it bottled up at the church. Here are some of the ways we serve on an ongoing basis.
Wheelchair ministry
More than 60 wheelchairs placed
BCC members work with our friends in the local community to identify individuals who need a wheelchair for mobility due to health issues. We visit the family to document the need, help plan for wheelchair access to their home and means of transportation, and then deliver, assemble, and adjust the wheelchairs, at no cost to the recipients.
The wheelchairs are made available free of charge through a philanthropic organization sponsored by the owners of the Do It Center in Liberia, and we are grateful for their continued sponsorship.
We support the Children’s Feeding & Bible Study Center in Brasilito, as well as the English and Math teaching center in Brasilito.
More details to follow.
Food programs
Everyone needs something to eat every day
Sadly, there are people in our communities who struggle to put food on the table. BCC provides ongoing financial sponsorship for two of the major food programs in the area, Las Playas Foodbank and Abriendo Mentes, and collects food items and clothing at the church every Sunday for distribution through these organizations.
Getting ready to move out and found unopened food in your pantry? Bring it by the church. It will be greatly appreciated.
Béisbol
Baseball in Brasilito
That’s Spanish for baseball, and the local kids (boys and girls) love to play. We meet at the baseball fields in Brasilito to practice and play. The kids practice their English on us and we practice our Spanglish on them. It’s a great way to interact with the local community. You don’t need to have any equipment or talent to play, just come on down with a smile and a joyful attitude.
BCC and its individual members provide assistance to others in the community in many special ways: replacing a leaky roof, providing assistance for newborn care, special medical and dental care, counseling, tutoring, job placement, and many others. If you know of such a need in the community, please let us know.
Picnics
Picnics in the Brasilito square
Several times a year BCC sponsors a Sunday afternoon picnic in the Brasilito Square. The whole community turns out at the smell of hot dogs, hamburgers, or chicken cooking on a charcoal grill. There’s really no formal program, just get out and meet the community. We don’t charge admission, but we are paid generously in smiles and hugs.
Recovery
Alcoholics Anonymous
An Alcoholics Anonymous meeting gathers on Saturday afternoons. Please see the church calendar, as specific dates and locations are regularly updated. Our resources page also has guides on sobriety and chemical dependency.
